How it works

  1. Collect stakeholdersPeople, groups, committees and external partners who are affected or have a say.
  2. Rate influence and interestEach from 1 to 5, plus the attitude: supportive, neutral or critical.
  3. Read the strategyThe tool places each stakeholder in a quadrant and warns about critical stakeholders with high influence.
  4. Set actions and shareA concrete action per stakeholder. Export as PNG, Excel or PDF.

The four quadrants of the stakeholder matrix

The influence-interest matrix (also power-interest grid or stakeholder map) is the most common form of stakeholder analysis. Influence describes how strongly someone can push or block the initiative. Interest describes how strongly they are affected by the result. Together with the attitude, the position decides how much attention a stakeholder needs.

Frequently asked questions

What is a stakeholder analysis?

A method to capture everyone involved in an initiative and rate them by influence, interest and attitude. The goal is to know early whom to involve and where resistance may come from.

When do you do a stakeholder analysis?

Before kick-off and again after every major change, such as new parties, delays or a change in management.

Which stakeholders are most often forgotten?

Works council, data protection officer, IT security, purchasing, external service providers and the users themselves.

Is there an Excel template?

Yes. The Excel template has drop-down lists for the attitude, calculates the strategy automatically and highlights critical stakeholders with high influence.

Is the tool really free?

Yes. The tool runs entirely in your browser, without sign-up and at no cost.

Is my data stored?

Only locally in your browser, so your work is still there next time. Nothing is sent to our servers. “Share link” puts your state into the link’s address; anyone who gets the link can see it.
